Great question! One saint to learn more about is St. Homobonus (meaning, literally, "a good man"). St. Homobonus was a 12th century Italian tradesman. He and his wife were unable to have children and he devoted much time to caring for abandoned children and the poor. Initially, his wife was very resistant of his charitable work, even critical and demeaning. But eventually he won her over and she served alongside him.

There are many other faithful husbands whom the Church presents to us as saintly models. Not all of them dealt with the cross of a wife's infidelity, but nonetheless they witnessed to the power and beauty of faithful married love. Some examples include St. Ferdinand III, St. Louis IX of France, St. Thomas More, St. Frances Borgia and Servant of God Charles of Austria. Their stories (and many more) can be found in the book "Married Saints and Blesseds Through the Centuries" by Ferdinand Holbock (Ignatius Press, 2002).

I've read so many stories of holy wives saving the souls of their awful husbands by their patience and faithfulness, mercy and love. They are all wonderful, but at least once I'd really enjoy a story about a faithful husband saving a lost wife. Is there such a story? It would give me comfort.

True love is only from God; it is a gift from God that flows through what is called the Human Life Continuum which flows from God through our spirit and through our cognition to others.

Emotional love is amplified by the Human Life Continuum to a degree that is unlimited; and, that is dependent only upon the degree to which our cognitive state is in accordance with the Will of God.

Emotional attachment outside of the Human Life Continuum, irrespective of the intensity of emotion is not love; albeit it is reflective of the immutable spiritual need for love; as love is only from God through the Human Life Continuum.

For God's love to flow through the Human Life Continuum it is required that our cognition be in conformity with the absolute laws of God and thereby be connected to God to thereby allow God's love to flow.

This means that cognitive states that are not in accordance with God's Will disconnect from God disallowing the flow of God's love through the Human Life Continuum.

It is only in accordance with the Will of God, as manifest in our immutable architecture, that a person may realize their full gifted potential from God. Our path to the realization of the potential of our human lives is soundly supported within our sacrament of marriage. This means that we are each other's path to heaven through our holy sacrament of marriage.

What a wonderful resource! I have just started to explore the site and it is set up beautifully. I like the picture of Saints Anne and Joachim. You bet I will be visiting this site more in the future to read and learn. I am glad that the Catholic church is explaining the subject and promoting this vocation that I love and have grown closer to Christ in. I will be better versed to explain my beliefs. BTW I learned of this from the article in the Universe Bulletin. Thank you.

It is exciting news to have this website that is intended to remind married couples about the divine call to holiness through the vocation of marriage as sacrament. We are called to be holy as husband and wife...Can a marriage remain holy if there is a lack of respect for each other? When we see the image of God in our spouse...or at least remind ourselves of this truth...then we are able to treat each other respectfully, lovingly...cherishing each other "until death do us part."

This needs to be preached long and hard, in season and out of season, until those in the pews believe it from their hearts. Marriage has been able to erode because no one knows what marriage in the eyes of God is suppose to look like. Unfortunately, most marriages are on the rocks before they ask for help. Marriage preparation should begin before the age of dating. Thank God for Theology of the Body.

Anthony Buono, a prominent Catholic speaker on dating relationships/courtship and marriage agrees with my conclusions, as seen in his blog: http://6stonejars.com/2011/07/17/gay-marriage-the-price-of-contraception/

I'm thankful for the bishops who are speaking out on the truth about marriage.

Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his 2008 World Day of Peace Message the following:
“…whoever, even unknowingly, circumvents the institution of the family undermines peace in the entire community, national and international, since he weakens what is in effect the primary agency of peace. This point merits special reflection: everything that serves to weaken the family based on the marriage of a man and a woman, everything that directly or indirectly stands in the way of its openness to the responsible acceptance of a new life, everything that obstructs its right to be primarily responsible for the education of its children, constitutes an objective obstacle on the road to peace."

In other words if you want peace, you have to defend the family based on the marriage of a man and a woman.

The cause of SSA (same sex attraction) is not my concern--the Church has no official stance on it either. What the Church does highly recommend is that someone with SSA not act on his/her same sex attraction because it offends chastity. That's my point.
To state it positively, someone with SSA has the freedom to love in a chaste way--that is, true to his/her sexuality as a man or a woman, but by not engaging in sexual activity. The same goes for unmarried heterosexual individuals, which is also my point. Either way, if you aren't married to someone of the opposite sex, then you should be abstaining from sexual activity. And, even if you are married to someone of the opposite sex, then you should be practicing conjugal chastity--that is, abstaining from sexual activity outside of sexual intercourse with your spouse.
